Engineering Manager
The Metalworking Group Cincinnati, OH
The Metalworking
Group employs a wide range of metal working equipment... from
CNC machining to hard dies to robotic welding
to a turret / shear combination to powder coat painting to UniPunch
C-Frame Tooling to serve their customers. The company also operates
about 35
stamping presses.
“
Once it’s set up and you have your template made, it’s
a breeze... just a snap”
How do you utilize Unipunch C-Frame Tooling in your manufacturing
business?
“
We’re making 300 to 500 of these parts...a flat strip
with half a dozen holes in it. It’s a large quantity
order that we run several times a year. The cost of running
these parts on the turret as opposed to running them
on the UniPunch tooling would cost about twice as much."
“
In one hit, using UniPunch tooling, we have a completed
part. Making that part on the turret, even though the
hits are faster,
it would probably take twice as long so we’re saving
the turret time plus we’re making more parts per
hour on the Unipunch tooling. The UniPunch tooling has
already paid for itself in a single year.
What interested
you in Unipunch tooling?
“
There are several reasons. One is if we can take work
off the CNC turrets and put it on the brakes, it’s
a much lower cost situation. It’s actually a cost
savings more than anything. Then we can put other work
on the turrets."
“
We initially got started using UniPunch tooling on
one particular part, but since then we had two or
three similar parts come in
that we have ordered tooling for. The operators and
I get together and decide how to make the parts.
Our operators add a lot to the decision making process.
The operators like working with the tooling. Once
it’s set up and you have your template made,
it’s
a breeze...just a snap.”
