Jesus O. “Jessie” Flores
Manufacturing Engineer
Planning / Estimating Manager
FABCON Santa Anna, CA
As a custom manufacturing business capable
of turning out completed products with a very fine eye for
detail and design, Fabcon not only manufactures parts but also
assembles products for its customers. Their motto is, “The
finest of sheet metal
fabrication.”
According to Jessie,
“ We never say no...never say no. The worst case scenario is, ‘Let
us take a look and we will see. "
“ At Fabcon, we do things the right way. We work seven days
a week, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Management
treats us all
like we are owners, and we do feel like that. Our president’s
door is always open...to everybody on the floor.”
“ We made some prototypes on our CNC machines and had lots
of waste...lots of headaches.”
“ Our customers range from aerospace to retail stores. We have
high tech customers like Cisco®...retail customers like
Oakley®.
We make everything from BBQ parts to close tolerance aerospace
parts.
Everything in between."
“
It is my job to determine whether the part is built using
the laser, the turret or the UniPunch tooling."
“
It goes back to the basics. In this particular case the
parts were bus bars. We made some prototypes on our CNC
machines and had lots of waste, lots of headaches.
They are complicated machines that are designed for thin
material, sheet metal."
“
The bus bars we were punching were 3/8 inch copper material.
Very expensive. I went to our COO and told him what
I needed.
I had already put together a starter package
of UniPunch
products,
about $5,000. I came up with three options which I normally
do, I told the customer we can start this way for $5,000.
He agreed and from then on they have been a good customer."
“
I always look at a job three ways. What is the best
way to make this part? I always look for a better
way to
make a better
part or make the part less costly. That’s why
I requested that we buy UniPunch. I had used UniPunch
before
at other places
and was very impressed."
“
In the beginning people here said UniPunch is too old...it’s
an old system. But now, everybody is saying, ‘Oh wow,
we can take this job off the CNC machine and make it with UniPunch
and realize two to three hours saved time on the CNC.’ Time
on the CNC machine is expensive.”
